Ron Jaworski’s Ranking For New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees Is Wrong

Saints at No. 9 in PFT preseason power rankings

Drew Brees

Fairly accurate that is, except for one quarterback in particular New Orleans Saints Drew Brees. Jaworski ranked Brees No. 6, just out of reach of the top five. Who was the first to make it into this years top five? It was none other than fellow NFC South quarterback and division rival Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons . Jaworski had nothing but positive things to say about Ryan and, to be fair, I think hes right in that regard. Ryan has gotten better since he came into the league in 2008. Last year he threw for 4,719 yards, had 32 touchdowns to 14 interceptions and had a completion percentage of 68.6.

Last season, Brees played in all 16 games and threw for 5,177 yards and 43 touchdowns. Wow, impressive and unsustainable numbers, one might say. Except that Brees numbers from two seasons ago were even better, when he threw for the most yards in a single season in league history: 5,476. Over the past two seasons, Brees has averaged the most fantasy points per year in standard scoring leagues of all quarterbacks, 457.6. The next closest are Aaron Rodgers (452.2) and Tom Brady (426.6). Like I said previously, chances are Brees puts up even better numbers this year than last year. Last season was one of turmoil for the Saints, going through all the bounty allegations and losing head coach Sean Payton for the entire season.

Woods has enjoyed a resurgence in his play that has earned him over $13.1 million the past 12 months – double his total from the prior year. Tennis star Roger Federer is second at $71.5 million while Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers is third at $61.9 million. LeBron James comes in fourth with $59.8 million, followed by Brees who rounded out the top five. Last year’s highest-paid athlete, Floyd Mayweather, is 14th. David Beckham was No.

Still a great QB but if the Saints want to contend year in and year out he has to do better. That defense isnt good enough for him to be turning the ball over. Not only does Brees earn extra money, but he says that all his marketing deals also contain a charitable component for his personal foundation. “Maybe it starts with a $25,000 donation, but there are times it has evolved into larger donations, maybe $100,000 or a quarter of a million,” he says. Craig Errington, vice president of marketing for VF Jeanswear (Wrangler), says that a “great way to connect with consumers is to put a real personality and face on a brand through an endorsement relationship.” By adding Brees to the Wrangler endorsement list, which already includes athletes Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brett Favre, the company adds a family value-centered character Wrangler hopes resonates with consumers. “There is an authenticity to Drew,” Errington says. “There is a down to earth quality, he is approachable and relatable while being a hard working rugged guy.
