Drew Brees sues ex-teammate over bogus tax credits investment

Fans can vote online for Brees up until the night of the awards on July 17th. The Saints quarterback also won the award last year for breaking Dan Marinos record of most passing yards in a season. It was the fourth time Brees won an ESPY award; he won three in 2011 for Best Male Athlete, Best Championship Performance, and Best NFL Player. Also joining him in this record breaking category for an award is Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions, USA swimmer Michael Phelps, and USA soccer player Abby Wambach. In 2012, Brees was considered an elite quarterback with 422-of-670 throws for 5,177 yards. He had 43 touchdown passes, 19 interceptions, and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl for the fifth consecutive year. Last year, Brees worked wonders as he was playing without a running game, solid defense, or true head coach. Brees great accuracy, precision, and fundamentals helped him carry his team to a 7-9 season last year. In 2013, he will have a coach back and a better defense, and will be able to win more games than not.

The star quarterback will pocket another $7.8 million this year based on contracts with Vicks, Tide, Pepsi, Verizon, Nike, Advocare, Monster Headphones, Chase and Wrangler. The endorsement deals for Brees have grown each year of his New Orleans’ tenure, with the next national rollout of Brees with Wrangler set to launch in August. Brees says he’s proud to be a father and tries to live as an example of what he stands for with his faith and as a family man, which leads to “great American brands” approaching him for endorsement deals. Not only does Brees earn extra money, but he says that all his marketing deals also contain a charitable component for his personal foundation. “Maybe it starts with a $25,000 donation, but there are times it has evolved into larger donations, maybe $100,000 or a quarter of a million,” he says. Craig Errington, vice president of marketing for VF Jeanswear (Wrangler), says that a “great way to connect with consumers is to put a real personality and face on a brand through an endorsement relationship.” By adding Brees to the Wrangler endorsement list, which already includes athletes Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brett Favre, the company adds a family value-centered character Wrangler hopes resonates with consumers. “There is an authenticity to Drew,” Errington says. “There is a down to earth quality, he is approachable and relatable while being a hard working rugged guy.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady vehemently disagree. In fact, the two teamed up together to co-write an editorial for the San Francisco Chronicle to discuss why the proposed bill unfairly targets professional athletes. There are players — real people with real families — out there who are literally fighting to save their legs and get the medical care they need for the injuries they suffered at work, Brady and Brees write. Despite what bill supporters say, California taxpayers are not on the hook for these players’ benefits or their care. The bill’s author Darren Sproles Youth Jersey admits that. In fact, in the NFL and many other pro sports, the cost of workers’ compensation is deducted from the players’ share of league revenues as agreed through collective bargaining. Brady, who was born in San Mateo, and Brees — the former Chargers quarterback — report that the NFL’s salary cap was reduced by $64 million last year to cover the costs of the teams’ workers’ compensation premiums. They also write that those who play pro sports gave nearly $200 million in taxes in 2011 on the income they earned while playing in California. And they have a few allies, including the California Labor Federation and the Consumer Attorneys of California. Both organizations say that some injuries suffered by athletes won’t be recognizable until many years later. Since that’s the case, they say players have to file in California because it has broader filing rules.

Brees received the ESPY nomination for breaking Johnny Unitas’ record of consecutive games with a TD pass last season. The Saints QB extended the streak to 54 games. The ESPYs will be televised live Wednesday, July 17, at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN/ESPNHD from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The ESPYS will be hosted by actor Jon Hamm, widely celebrated for his role as Don Draper on AMCs award-winning series Mad Men.

They have Brees at No. 79. Brees as the 79th best player in the NFL? Drew Brees Authentic Jersey I have to respectfully dispute that. I know 2012 wasnt his best season, but I think this guy belongs in any list of the top 10 (at very least top 20) players in the game. But I think the rest of the NFC South players on the list came in at just about the right spots.
